Fuel Pump Control Relay. Once power is supplied to the ECU it will activate the relay automatically to start the fuel pump to build up pressure for about 10 à 15 seconds, after which it will shut down the pump (also saving on battery power) until the pilot engages the starter engine. Once the ECU detects the engine is turning, it automatically switches on the pump to provide fuel and leaves it on until it detects that the engine has been stopped. In the event of a crash landing and as a consequence an abrupt engine shutdown, the ECU will automatically shut off fuel pump to reduce the risk of fire.
